RODERICK REUNION 2001

On Saturday, October 13, 2001, the annual family reunion (in honor of Frederick Roderick) was held in Morganton, North Carolina.  I am appreciative to Martha Jump, Richard Lane, Nina Hogan, Carl Reed, and the many others that made my stay so memorable.

I took the following pictures at the downtown community building.  About 50 descendants (and others) were in attendance.  The food that everyone brought was delicious.  The event is normally held on the second weekend in October.  Look on this site for the date of the next event.

Richard Lane, family historian, displaying numerous historical documents:

After the meeting, a group of us (I'll supply the names later) went out to the old Roderick family cemetery at old Linville.  The site is off a highway about 1/2 mile or so.  The last half of the journey is by foot down an old logging trail.  The area is heavily wooded and beautiful.  It would be impossible to find without a guide.

There are 7 grave markers: Frederick Roderick, Elizabeth Phillips (his wife), Daniel (son of Frederick), Elizabeth Spainhour (wife of Daniel), William Harvey (son of Daniel), and 2 other unknown children.  The original markers are mostly unreadable now.  Donations from family members were/are being taken to upgrade the site.  New markers were placed on the side opposite to the original ones.

The original Daniel Roderick (1/2/1804-1860) marker:

Elizabeth (Spainhour) Roderick (1/10/1802-4/12/1886), wife of Daniel Roderick:
